Crypto leverage risk calculator — margin is not the same as loss

The same position at 2×, 5×, 10×, 20× and 50×. Watch what leverage actually changes — the margin your venue sets aside — and what it does not: the dollars your stop is planned to lose.

Planned stop loss — at every leverage
$120.00
Gross notional
$6000.00
Estimated margin at 2×$3000.00
Estimated margin at 5×$1200.00
Estimated margin at 10×$600.00
Estimated margin at 20×$300.00
Estimated margin at 50×$120.00

The loss column does not exist, because there is nothing to vary: at the size and stop you entered, changing leverage changes estimated margin — not the planned stop-loss dollars.

What this covers

Linear USDT/USDC contracts; margin approximated as notional ÷ leverage.
Exchange liquidation mechanics are NOT modelled here. Maintenance-margin tiers are venue facts this page does not calculate.
Fees, funding, and slippage excluded — the full check adds costs.

Formula and assumptions

Gross notional = entry price × quantity.
Estimated margin = notional ÷ leverage (initial margin, before venue tiers and fees).
Planned stop loss = |entry − stop| × quantity, independent of leverage.
USDT/USDC settlement treated as USD one-to-one.

Worked example

Example — not a recommendation.

Position0.1 BTC · entry 60,000 · stop 58,800
Gross notional$6,000
Planned stop loss$120 — at every leverage below
Margin at 5×$1,200
Margin at 20×$300

Common mistakes

Reading a smaller margin as a smaller position. The notional and the stop loss did not move.
Raising leverage to free margin, then spending the freed margin on more size — that is the loss growing, silently.
Choosing leverage first. Size and stop decide the loss; leverage only decides how much collateral sits against it.
Assuming a liquidation price from a rule of thumb. It is a venue-specific calculation with tiers this page does not model.

This is arithmetic on numbers you supplied. It does not know your broker, your account, or the market. It does not predict price, does not say whether to take a trade, and is not advice. Maximelion is not affiliated with any broker or prop firm, and nothing here is endorsed by one.
